is this a typo?

Any chance it's a spotty usb thumb drive? I've seen behavior much like this on a pogo-e02 of mine which was tracked down to a bad usb thumb drive. New sandisk drive fixed it right up.

Yes, that was a copy/paste typo!

@zifxify,

Please try the new DTB.

Hello Bodhi,

I have been reading through this forum for last couple of weeks and now I feel that I can handle installing Debian on my GoFlex Home. I was following your U-boot instructions ( https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,12381 ) and was stumped by the following:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
bash-3.2# fw_printenv ethaddr
Warning: Bad CRC, using default environment
## Error: "ethaddr" not defined
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Is it ok to continue with your instructions after this error?

Following are the changes I have made to the stock OS so far:

1) Downloaded Uboot Flashing utilities from ( https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,27280 ) and
2) copied following files to Stock OS /usr/bin folder: busybox, e2fsck, nanddump, fw_printenv, flash_erase, nandwrite
3) Copied fw_env.config file to Stock OS /etc folder.

I am new to Linux and learning at a slow pace.

Your help will be appreciated.

Here is the info about my device:
---------------------------------------------------------------

That error is OK when you run fw_printenv in stock OS.

Go ahead with the u-boot installation. After you've flashed new u-boot, that error should not occur.

Thanks for Prompt reply.

Should I prepare a new usb flash drive and plug it in the GoFlex home before I proceed further?

Typically what I do at this point is pull up the gpio binding documentation for the SoC and determine what range of GPIO pins are likely to be the power pins for the drives (ie not reserved for the ethernet controller/uart/etc) and loop through them with a script enabling each while watching dmesg for the drive being detected. Once I've identified all the pins I create the appropriate device-tree entries for them.

These would be similar to what you have already for drive 1:

reg_sata0: pwr-sata0 {
		compatible = "regulator-fixed";
		regulator-name = "pwr_en_sata0";
		regulator-min-microvolt = <12000000>;
		regulator-max-microvolt = <12000000>;
		enable-active-high;
		regulator-boot-on;
		gpio = <&gpio0 15 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
	};

I use a similar approach for identifying leds and buttons.

As usual there are often better ways to accomplish this but it doesn't require being able to modify the bootloader or relying on the the stock firmware/source code.

with the rackstation in front of you, from left to right drives numbered 1 to 4.

GPIO pin 15 (drive {2})
GPIO pin 37 (drive {3,4})

GPIO pin 6 turns on the led controller.
For Ethernet and drive leds, I assume this works different than for example status led and power-on led controlled by UART1.
Ethernet 1 led works correctly. When unplugging Ethernet 1 cable, led goes out. Ethernet 2 (not defined yet?)

Drive led 1 is out
Drive led {2,3,4} stays orange even when GPIO 37 is high

I do not find the right GPIO to turn on sata drive 1 or the way how to change the color of the drive leds

sounds like a good start.

sometimes if you have hardware defined in the dtb that doesn't actually exist it will reserve the pins that you need which will keep you from changing them. I just had that with a device where the drive power pin was one of the i2c pins, the device I copied the original dts from was using i2c for the rtc but the device I was working with didn't use i2c at all and had re-used the pin.

often times the Ethernet led's are controlled directly by the Ethernet chip, likewise with drive leds and the sata chip. There may or may not be a specific gpio pin that drives them.

Hello,
I have finally able to manage it.

The trick is:
  • paste the init script into /usr/local/zy-pkgs/etc/init.d/
  • start is trigered by startup argument, stop by shutdown argument

The source of information was in http://zyxel.nas-central.org/wiki/Boot_process_(300_series). There is /ram_bin/etc/init.d/rcS2 script (trigered as the last action in /etc/init.d/rcS) and in turn that starts /etc/init.d/zypkg_controller.sh. There, the /usr/local/zy-pkgs/etc/init.d is searched and additional scripts are started with "startup" argument.

The working init script is in the attachment.

Regards,
R.

I suppose it's possible it could be a failing drive, It's a used laptop drive thrown in a cheap external enclosure. I've never really put it to the test. The problem is really inconsistent. When I've had thumb drives that fail, they seem to go pretty quickly. I'll keep the rootfs drive in mind though as a possible culprit. Thanks for the idea.

Duh :) I did not remove all traces of the SoC SATA. So the regulator is stil there as 10... pointed out.

Hello, I decided to give hacking one of these a try. Its seems as though any command I send through putty is not getting executed. Uboot does recognize the interrupt but does nothing after. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is the bootlog without interrupting. Thanks!

Do you mean only the HDD in slot 0 is enable?

using your lastest dtb without soc sata, and without setting GPIO pin 37 as high, there's only drive (drive 2) available. Enabling soc sata also enables drive 1 (slot 0)

In serial console, try to initialize the drives. Can uboot see all drives and can you list each partition’s content?
