I think it is most likely you will find the chip marking as MLC.

Try in u-boot to see what's the info as seen by u-boot

nand info

Zyxel 310. No ethernet since the 4.20 kernel on Arch - Realtek drivers r8168/r8169

Hello everybody.
I know it is Debian mostly forum, but got great help in the past here, so I'll try again here.
The problem is, that my wired network don't works since the new 4.20 kernel - either on my default r8169 drivers (built in kernel) or the installed r8168.
Everything works fine in my 4.19.9 kernel.
When on r8169 I get:
dmesg | grep r8169
[ 1.839771] r8169 0000:01:00.0: enabling device (0140 -> 0143)
[ 1.846456] r8169 0000:01:00.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): rtl_ph 0 (loop: 20, delay: 25).
[ 1.856836] r8160000:01:00.0 failed with error -5"
Tried with the r8168 driver, and it looked promising sinve I managed (I guess) to bring this network up
dmesg | grep r8168

What can I try yet? I'm out of ideas - I presented my problems also on the archlinux forum here

but still out of luck...

Hi,

I'm new to the whole uBoot and dtb stuff, any short pointers how to use the right dtb?

I already tried to attach it to the zImage and converted it to an uImage, but the dtb doesn't seem to be found...

Marvin,

The error indicated that you did not have a DTB.

Post the log of how you prepared the uImage and list the files in folder /boot. Assuming this rootfs is mounted as /media/sdb1 on another Linux box,

ls -lart /media/sdb1/boot

I first tried with the 4.12 kernel, then with the 4.20... However, I tried to install the 4.20 kernel from my linux box. I created the initrd, but I'm not sure if mkinitramfs worked the way I intended (with the -r option setting /mnt/sdg1 as root...)

I have the Chippc dtb in the dts folder.

System on USB is "Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2" on one ext3 partition labeled "rootfs" with MBR(msdos) partition table, I also did step number 4 "Create uImage with embedded DTB for booting with older u-boots", without it I was not able to boot from USB at all. Could you please help me with this?

That's correct.

DTB should not be appended when you boot with new u-boot (that was the problem in your last boot).

Restore the original uImage, and try booting again.

Run kwboot. Interrupt serial console, and

printenv
boot

Please post entire serial console log here.

Marvin,

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4589912 Feb 9 23:44 uImage

That uImage does not seem to be the right size. Should be 4603789 bytes.

Could you try again and post what you did here.

Hello again,

I restored the original uImage and boot using that, here is the console output, which is for some reason different than what I had previously (before appending DTB), I have no idea why... Anyway, here it is:
Michal-NB ~ # kwboot -t -B 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 -b '/home/michal/Desktop/uboot.2017.07-tld-1.nsa325.mtd0.kwb' -p
Sending boot message. Please reboot the target...-

Dyce,

Now the kernel is booting correctly. But your rootfs has problem.

Did you remember to be root user while you create the rootfs? (sudo is not enough while you are extracting to rootfs using tar).

Hello,

I used "su" command to log in as root user. I suppose that is enough right? Then I used gparted to set up the USB according to instructions. I am going to redo it again from scratch, just in case I did something wrong. I will edit this reply after with result.

Edit: Okay, I was now able to boot into debian, here is the console output. I will try to flash uboot now and will write here again if I need any help. Thank you so far for your assistance!

Edit: just a quick question, see output below
root@debian:/tmp# fw_printenv ethaddr
Warning: Bad CRC, using default environment
ethaddr=00:00:11:22:33:44
root@debian:/tmp#

Should I be concerned about that "bad CRC" message or am I safe to proceed?

Edit: after using fw_printenv from the tools you provided on dropbox, I see this output
root@debian:/tmp/tools# ./fw_printenv ethaddr
Warning: Bad CRC, using default environment
## Error: "ethaddr" not defined

Hello !
I didn't noticed your message - I need to set up some email notifications - anyway, I'm happy to hear from you.
My current - working environment:
uname -rv
4.19.9-1-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Fri Dec 14 03:34:38 UTC 2018
The recent kernel (and tried all previous 4.20 versions)
[rtorrent@zyxel ~]$ uname -rv
4.20.7-1-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Thu Feb 7 01:09:27 UTC 2019

Edit - maybe more useful will be to show the first revision where my network stopped working:
uname -rv
4.20.0-1-ARCH #1 PREEMPT Fri Dec 28 08:19:47 UTC 2018

Ok, I'll try.

this uImage should be the converted zImage 4.20.6, with the appended dtb.

cat dove-chip-lxd8941.dtb >> zImage-4.20.6-mvebu-tld-1

mkimage -A arm -O linux -T kernel -C none -a 0x00008000 -e 0x00008000 -n "Linux-4.20.6-mvebu-tld-1" -d /mnt/sdg1/boot/zImage-4.20.6-mvebu-tld-1 uImage

should the 4.12.4 rootfs work out of the box with the LXD8941?

Hi Bodhi,
I've changed the env as you suggested, but the NAND still read only mode.

Re: XFCE desktop on Pogoplug Debian

Hi Bodhi and everyone with any insight into this problem,

I Installed XFCE as instructed here on the wiki ( https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,21784 ).

I am using RDC on windows 10 machine to connect to GoFlexHome box running Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 with uboot.2017.07-tld-1.goflexhome.bodhi.tar

Problem:

After I RDC to goflex box a black screen apperas with a notch on top showing thumbpin logo and ip address. few seconds later a xrdp connection log box on teal/blue background appears stating:

------------------------------------------------------------
connecting to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350
sesman connect ok
sending login info to session manager, please wait...
login failed for display 0
--------------------------------------------------------------

Then I press ok button to close the box

now all I see is teal/blue background and xrdp login window that has following options:

Session: Xorg, Xvnc, Console, vnc-any, sesman-any, rdp-any, neutrinordp-any.

I have tried all but nothing works.

Out of the above, "Xvnc" connection gives following in Connection Log Box:
------------------------------------------------------
connection to sesman ip 127.0.0.1 port 3350
sesman connect ok
sending login info to session manager, please wait...
login successful for display 10
VNC started connection
VNC connecting to 127.0.0.1 5910
VNC error - problem connection
some problem
--------------------------------

I have tried all the solutions that I found on ( https://askubuntu.com/questions/797973/error-problem-connecting-windows-10-rdp-into-xrdp ) as follows:

(i) I removed and then reinstalled tightvncserver and xrdp.

(ii) I created a file /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config containing "allowed_users = anybody"

(iii) I edited /etc/xrdp/sesman.ini and changed "AllowRootLogin=1"

But nothing worked.

I think this problem is the same problem as posted by brickman7713 in this message above ( https://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,21784,75864#msg-75864 )

What am I missing? Should I have implemented some prerequisites before installing xfce?

any and all help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Navi

P.S. Bodhi, You had asked Brickman7713 to share the serial console log of ps -deaf | grep rdp
ps -deaf | grep vnc with you, did he ever do that? ) can this log be generated on my box through Netconsole?

Re: Install Debian on old GoFlex Home

Hi Bodhi,

after installing hdparm I used following command as root to set HD spindown time to 21 minutes on my GoFlex Home Box

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
~# hdparm -S 255 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
setting standby to 255 (21 minutes + 15 seconds)

and then used following command to retain hdparm settings after a software reset

:~# hdparm -K 1 /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
setting drive keep features to 1 (on)
SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb[]: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 04 51 40 00 21 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Am I safe in assuming that above commands have successfully changed HD spindown time to 21 minutes and that this setting will be retained even after reboot?

Regards,

Navi
