I think our (my) mistake was making the wrong assumption that the 6192 is the same as the 6281 chip in this regard :) If you look at the GoFlex Net/Home patches, there is no need to trigger the GPIO to turn on SATA power. It must have been an oversight by Marvell, so they had to turn it on by U-Boot. Or perhaps it was by design so to save energy? who knows.
